Upgrading to PhotoParade Essentials 5.0
No, you do not have to uninstall any of your existing programs before installing Essentials 5.0. PhotoParade Essentials 5.0 should automatically replace PhotoParade Maker 4.0, and you will not lose galleries, themes, or PhotoParades. Photo Viewer and Photo E-Mailer will also be automatically replaced.
This will happen smoothly providing that you choose "Easy Install" when you install PhotoParade Essentials 5.0.

No, you should not have to reinstall any 4.0 themes that you currently own. They are the most recent theme versions, and are completely compatible with PhotoParade Essentials 5.0.

Because the Macintosh market is small and Apple is giving away their iPhoto application for free, it no longer makes financial sense for our company to continue developing new products, such as PhotoParade Essentials, for the Mac. While we will continue to update the Mac version of our free PhotoParade Player so that Mac users can receive and play PhotoParade slideshows, we have decided to discontinue the Mac versions of PhotoParade Maker, Photo Viewer and Photo E-mailer.

WAL-MART PORTRAIT STUDIO QUESTIONS
The Portrait Gallery is the collection of your digital studio portraits on the floppy disk from Wal-Mart. This floppy disk is the only disk that will work with the Wal-Mart edition PhotoParade CD ROM.

To e-mail a PhotoParade slideshow, create the slideshow with the CD ROM and floppy disk, play it, and then at the end of the slideshow choose "Send" after filling in the required fields.
Tip: You can skip to the end of the slideshow at any time by pressing the F1 key.

The Wal-Mart edition of the PhotoParade CD ROM will only recognize photos from your Portrait Gallery floppy disk. If you'd like to make slideshows out of any variety of pictures, you need PhotoParade Essentials, sold only on the PhotoParade website. Learn more about PhotoParade Essentials.

Windows System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Intel Pentium processor or 100% compatible processor, 16 MB of RAM, 800x600 256-color monitor, Photo File Formats: JPG. CD Drive and Floppy disk drive. Both drives must be able to run simultaneously.
Macintosh System Requirements: Macintosh OS 8.6 or later (runs in Classic mode on OS X), 32 MB of RAM, 800x600 256-color monitor, Photo File Formats: JPG. CD Drive and Floppy disk drive. Both drives must be able to run simultaneously.

Insert the CD ROM and allow it to auto run. If it doesn't auto-run, then double click on your CD drive's icon to launch the CD. Follow the on-screen instructions when the CD starts. Insert the Portrait Gallery floppy disk when prompted. Follow the on-screen instructions, making sure to choose a theme and keep clicking Next Step until your show is created.

If you run the PhotoParade CD ROM and then insert the floppy disk when prompted, the images from the disk should all start to upload into the program. If this does not happen, and you get an error stating that you need to reformat your disk or that the disk could not be found, unfortunately, your disk may be damaged. To find out for sure, please follow these steps:
1) Open the "My Computer" icon on your computer's desktop.
2) Make sure your floppy disk is in its drive.
3) Double-click the "A:" (floppy) icon in the My Computer window.
4) (if you get an error, stop. the disk is damaged)
5) Double-click the "images" folder that you see in the "A:" window.
6) (if you get an error, stop. the disk is damaged)
7) If you can see a number of files within the "images" window, your floppy
disk appears to be fine.
If your disk is damaged, you should contact your Portrait Studio as soon as
possible. The Portrait Studio can make you a duplicate copy of your floppy
disk for you if you contact them quickly enough. If you have further concerns regarding the PCA Portrait Studio, please visit their website for more information: www.goportraits.com

You can submit your pictures at http://www.goportraits.com/wmps/great_exp/gallery.asp

Please direct your concerns to the PCA website, where you will find a phone number and email address for them in the “Contact Us” section.

You cannot change the order of the pictures in a PhotoParade created with the Portrait Gallery floppy disk and PhotoParade CD ROM.

Insert your floppy disk into the A drive. Locate your JPG images on the floppy disk inside a folder called Images. Pull up your email system and attach one or multiple JPGs to the email.

Yes.
· Make a duplicate copy of your PCA floppy disk.
· From the duplicate copy, remove the portraits (.jpg files) you don't want from the "images" folder.
· Make a PhotoParade using the duplicate floppy disk, and it'll have only the portraits you want.
Pictures in a PhotoParade will not look very good when printed at a large size, because the image is already reduced so that it's easier to send the smaller file across the Internet. Printing in small sizes like wallets are your best bet. If you would like to print your photos, they are located on your floppy disk in a folder called Images. You can use many programs to open
any one of the ".jpg" files. You may do so in either AOL, any image-editing program, or your Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator.
*Printing in smaller sizes and with photo-quality printing paper is highly recommended for better quality prints.* If you are printing from your browser, once the image is opened, choose "Print" from the File menu. For best results, you may want to use "Page Setup" in the File menu to choose a "reduction" of less than 100%. The exact method of setting the reduction depends on which printer you're using.
If you would like an easy and quick way to print the photos in a PhotoParade as wallet-sized prints from your own printer, we offer "PhotoParade Player Plus". Please see this page for more information:
http://www.PhotoParade.com/player.asp

No, you cannot use pictures from more than one Portrait Gallery disk in a single PhotoParade, or your own digital pictures. The PhotoParade CD ROM is exclusively designed just for the PCA Portrait Studios in Wal-Mart stores, and will only work with their floppy disks, one at a time.
We sell a far more advanced product, PhotoParade Essentials 5.0, that allows you to use any digital pictures in a PhotoParade slideshow, and also allows you to add your own music, narration, titles and captions. It even allows you to print, e-mail, view, and edit your pictures. Please visit www.PhotoParade.com/ess.asp for more information.

The PhotoParade CD that was made specifically for the PCA studios is programmed to look for the images in the floppy drive (A drive). Unfortunately, it won't find the pictures, even if you copy them somewhere else on your computer.

If you just want to view the individual pictures on the floppy disk, you can insert the disk and open up your "My Computer" icon, then open up your "A drive" icon. Your photos are inside the Images folder on the floppy disk. Each photo should have the JPG file extension.
In addition, you probably already have your photos from the floppy stored on your computer from the first time you created a slideshow. Look in your C drive for a folder called PCAPorts. Within that folder will be a folder called Images. That is where all of your images are, as well as on the floppy disk.

In order to purchase additional themes you would have to upgrade to our more advanced product, PhotoParade Essentials 5.0. With PhotoParade Essentials, you can make personalized slideshows, print, edit, and e-mail your photos without attachments.
Purchasing PhotoParade Essentials does not only give you more themes (59 available), but it allows you to use *any digital photos; not just the ones from your PCA Portrait Gallery floppy disk.

You can purchase additional sheets of sticker paper at Wal-Mart, in their office supplies section, or at your local office supplies store. Avery 5353 paper is a good choice, but you can use any 8-1/2" x 11" solid white sticker paper.   Please note that Avery 5353 paper is not repositionable.
In a pinch, you can print the photos on regular paper and use a glue stick to apply the stickers.

If you are having problems aligning the paper, it is likely that you have inadvertently printed on the wrong side.
There is no need to adjust the printer settings or align the sticker paper in any
special way.
The front of your sticker paper is the solid white page, intended to be printed on and then cut out
with scissors. The back of your sticker paper has a blue line along the side, and is also
scored so you can peel the backs off the stickers once you've cut them out with scissors.
The sticker paper included in your package is a standard 8-1/2" x 11" size, and should be printed in your printer's default mode, portrait mode.
We recommend that you print a test page on regular paper before using the sticker paper.
This information is also included on the instruction sheet that came in the
PhotoParade sticker packet.

No. The labels are intended to be used for multiple purposes, so there is
no option for typing in your name and address before printing.
You can hand-write on the stickers once they've been printed.

If your sticker program is feeding the paper through the printer, but the sheet is coming out blank, please try the following suggestion:
Please try going to your printer manufacturer's website and make sure you
have installed all of the printer's latest drivers.
Then go to your print queue in Windows and make sure *all* print
tasks are cleared. Then please restart your computer and try printing again.

PhotoParade Essentials
Do I need to purchase anything in order to watch a PhotoParade slideshow that I was sent?
No, you do not need to purchase anything in order to view or send a PhotoParade. All you need is to install the FREE PhotoParade Player. To download the free Player, go to www.PhotoParade.com/player.asp and download it. At the bottom of the "Installation Successful!" page, you will see a link to pick up the PhotoParade that you are now ready to watch. If you do not see this pick-up link after installing the PhotoParade Player, simply go back to the e-mail you were sent, and click the link to the PhotoParade slideshow.

System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Intel Pentium processor or 100% compatible processor, 16 MB of RAM, 800x600 256-color monitor.
PhotoParade Essentials is not Macintosh compatible. However, photos and PhotoParade slideshows can be e-mailed to Macintosh users and viewed on a Macintosh.

This page on our website gives you a quick tour of the steps needed to create a PhotoParade: http://www.PhotoParade.com/EssQuicktour1.asp
You can also click on the Help menus in Essentials for much more detailed information.

You can preview each theme by clicking on the theme names at www.PhotoParade.com/EssSelect.asp and www.PhotoParade.com/ThemePacks.asp

No, you cannot edit a PhotoParade, but you can edit the gallery it was made from, to make a new PhotoParade. A gallery is the group of pictures you gather together to use in PhotoParade Essentials. You can edit a gallery as much as you want, and create as many different PhotoParades, prints, and e-mails as you want, out of the same gallery.

If you have a web page that contains a link to a PhotoParade you've uploaded, and visitors to your web site get an error like "Execute Access Denied" when they click on the PhotoParade's link, then, your web server is trying to "run" the PhotoParade file instead of just letting the web site visitor download the PhotoParade.
To solve the problem:
- Click on this link: Download .htaccess and choose "Save Target As" to download a file called ".htaccess" to your hard disk.
(Make sure to save it as ".htaccess". If your web browser suggests a different name, type .htaccess over that suggestion and click Save.)
- Upload .htaccess onto your web server in the same directory as your PhotoParade file.
*Note! Anyone who wants to view a PhotoParade that you have on your website MUST install the PhotoParade Player.
It's free for Windows users at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=win and free for Macintosh users at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac.
If you continue to have trouble, send your web page's URL to: support@PhotoParade.com and explain that your link isn't working.

If you have a Video Out connector on your computer, you can attach a cable from the computer to your VCR and record a PhotoParade onto a blank VHS tape.
For information on PhotoParades and Video CDs, click here.
PhotoParade slideshows cannot yet be viewed on DVD players. The "create CD" function produces CDs that are only compatible with personal computers.

PhotoParade doesn't run on monitors that are 640 x 480 pixels (dots) in size. There's simply not enough room to show everything properly.
However, some monitors can be changed from 640 x 480 to 800 x 600 pixels:
- From the Start menu, choose "Settings" and then "Control Panel"
- Open the "Display" Control Panel.
- Choose the "Settings" tab at the top of the Display Properties window.
- You will see a section labeled "Desktop Area".
- There may be a "slider" that can be moved from "Less" toward "More". Move it only one setting.
- Carefully follow the instructions that Windows gives you, and see if you can change to 800 x 600.
- You may have to restart your system.
- If you successfully change to 800 x 600, you will be able to run PhotoParade!

- Click the Windows Start button > Programs > Accessories > Multimedia > Volume Control.
- If necessary, adjust the settings for MIDI volume (for the music) and the Wave file volume (for the sound effects) so that they sound balanced when you play a PhotoParade.
- Click the Windows Start button > Settings > Control Panel, and then double-click Multimedia.
- On the MIDI tab, make sure the MIDI device driver that came with your sound card is selected.

The only way to print a picture that is part of a PhotoParade (unless you have copies of the original photos used in the slideshow) is with PhotoParade Player Plus (AKA PhotoParade Printer).
PhotoParade Printer allows you to print only wallet-sized photos, due to the image compression for the slideshow. PhotoParade Printer also allows you to view full-sized images of each individual picture in the slideshow, one at a time. This is done by double-clicking on the thumbnail image you want to view larger.
Buying PhotoParade Player Plus also allows you to save the photos in your slideshow as individual JPG files. You can do this by playing a slideshow in Carousel mode and clicking the save button when the picture you want to save is displayed.

If the person viewing the photo is not using AOL, send a copy of the photo to support@PhotoParade.com. If the person is using AOL, tell him or her to:
- Run AOL
- Click on the "Settings" menu and choose "Preferences".
- In the "Preferences" window that appears, click "Internet Properties (WWW)" near the bottom right.
- In the "AOL Internet Properties" window that appears, click the "Web Graphics" tab at the top.
- Choose "Never compress graphics" and click OK.
- Return to the web page that shows the photo and choose "Reload" from AOL's toolbar (at the top).
"Compressed" graphics take up less memory (and download faster) than regular graphics, but they do not look as sharp.
For most purposes, AOL's "Always compress graphics" option speeds up web surfing and yet still gives graphics that are acceptable. However, if the graphic (or photo, in this case) is the main focus of your web browsing, choosing "Never compress graphics" will give you better-looking photos with only a small decrease in performance.

PhotoParade Player reads only files whose names end in ".PhP" or ".4PP". If you have any other kind of file, then it's not a PhotoParade slideshow file, and you should be using a different program to open it. (If it is a .php file, but it was created by Microsoft Greetings or Microsoft Home Publishing, or is a php web script file, click here).
If you have a ".jpg" (JPEG) file, then you should use your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator or Communicator) or America Online to open it. You can also use a photo-editing program to open the JPG.
If you have a ".zip" (ZIP) file, you should use either America Online or WinZip (www.winzip.com ) to open it.
If you have a ".mim" (MIME) file, you should use WinZip (www.winzip.com ) to open it.
Open or install the appropriate program listed above, and try again to open your file.
If PhotoParade continues running automatically every time you try to open your file, follow these steps to fix the problem with Windows:
- Click just once on the file you want to open, so that it's highlighted.
- While holding down the SHIFT key, click the right mouse button.
- A menu will appear.
- From the menu, choose "Open With..."
- Choose the program you want to use to open your file.
- Check the checkbox at the bottom ("Always use the program to open this type of file").
- Click "OK"
From then on, the program you selected should open your file and files like it.

Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Greetings use the same ".php" file extension as PhotoParade. It appears that you have an older version of PhotoParade Player on your computer (perhaps it was installed automatically with an Adobe Photo Deluxe CD). Windows has mistakenly chosen to try to open your php files with the wrong program (PhotoParade Player). You just need to tell Windows to use the correct program for opening your php files, and all should run smoothly from there.
To do this in Windows:
- Click just once on the file you want to open.
- While holding down the SHIFT key, click the right mouse button.
- A menu should appear.
- From the menu, choose "Open With..."
- From the list that's shown, choose the program you want to use to open your file.
- Check the checkbox that says "Always use this program to open this kind of file".
*Note: Microsoft's programs may show up as "HPUB" or "HPUB.EXE" or "HOMEPUB" or "HOMEPUB.EXE".
* If the program you want is not in the list, click the "Other..." button. If the Program Files folder isn't showing, go to your C: drive and then open "Program Files". Within the Program Files folder, look for "Microsoft Home Publishing" or "Microsoft Greetings" or whatever other product you have. When you have found the correct folder, open it and double-click on the program file (HPUB or HPUB.EXE, for instance).
* Check the checkbox at the bottom ("Always use the program to open this type of file").
* Click "OK".
From then on, the program you selected should open your file and files like it.

Simply double-click on the theme installer (.EXE file). Type in the name the same exact way you registered with us, and your activation code, and click the Install button. That's it. The next time you run PhotoParade Make, the full version of the new theme will appear in the theme list.

No, PhotoParades cannot be viewed on Web TV. The person who sent you the slideshow can send you the original photos used in it as single email attachments.

To put an auto-play PhotoParade onto CD ROM, you will need PhotoParade Essentials 5.0. Simply create a PhotoParade slideshow, and at the end of the creation process, you with see the "Create CD" button. Clicking that button automatically places a folder called PhotoParade CD Files onto your desktop. The folder contains all of the files you will need to burn onto the CD for an auto-play PhotoParade.

Galleries (.ppg files) are located in PhotoParade Essentials. The actual location is C:\Program Files\PhotoParade Essentials\Data\Galleries.
Photoparades (.php files) are located in your folder "My PhotoParades". The actual location is C:\Program Files\PhotoParade Essentials\My PhotoParades.
You may want to back these up periodically to ensure that if you lose any data that you still have your PhotoParades and original galleries.

No, you don't need to re-purchase any PhotoParade products that you've purchased in the past. You simply need to sign in and all of your information will be on your Download Software page.

WS2_32.DLL is WinSock2. It's available for free from Microsoft at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/bin/W95ws2setup.exe.

WEBHDLL is part of a program called webHancer Customer Companion that's installed on your system. It's unrelated to PhotoParade.com. According to www.webhancer.com, "webHancer Customer Companion resides on the end-user's computer, where it transparently monitors Internet performance. webHancer Customer Companion measures overall network/site delay and the performance times experienced by actual end-users."
If webHancer (WEBHDLL) causes a crash on your system, we recommend uninstalling it. You can click to see webHancer's uninstallation instructions.

It is only possible to play one music file on a PhotoParade, in which case it will start over and replay itself again if your PhotoParade is longer than your song. If you are a user who makes your own MP3s (i.e. compiling a variety of songs or parts of songs to make one "compilation" MP3 file) then you could do that and use it in your PhotoParade. If you make a custom MP3 with an MP3 editor, you should make it in constant bit rate (CBR) and/or less than 56K sample rate so that it works best with PhotoParade. Otherwise, you will have to choose pre-recorded mp3 or midi files and let them replay themselves for the length of your PhotoParade slideshow.
Some MP3 editors that have free software downloads:
www.mp3workshop.com and www.mp3waveditor.com/download.htm

In order to make a PhotoParade slideshow your screen saver, you have to start playing it, and either wait until it gets to the "end", or hit the F1 key to bring you right to the Options page. There is a button there that allows you to make that PhotoParade your screensaver. All you should have to do is click it, and your screensaver is automatically updated.

- From the Start menu, choose "Settings" and then "Control Panel"
- Open the "Display" Control Panel.
- Choose the "Screen Saver" tab at the top of the Display Properties window.
- Make sure you have "PhotoParade Portrait Gallery" selected.
- Click "Settings..."
- Check "Sound on".
- Click "OK"
- Close any other windows you opened.

What should happen when you are sent an email with a link for a PhotoParade
is, you click on the link and it takes you to the pickup page, where a blue Download button appears. You are prompted to download the free Player if you don't already have it installed on your computer. You can get the free player at http://www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=win for Windows users and
at http://www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac for Macintosh users.
Once you have the PhotoParade Player installed, go back to the pickup page (from the link in your email) and click the download button to watch the show once, OR choose to save it to your computer. You can choose to save it by RIGHT-clicking on the
blue download button and choose *Save Target As* (Macintosh users click and hold down the mouse then choose Save To Disk). If you save it to disk, you need to find the file and double-click on it to watch the show. If you just did the automatic download, it will start playing the show automatically when the download is complete.

Currently, PhotoParade does not offer VCD technology within our products. You cannot play a PhotoParade slideshow in your DVD player. The PhotoParade software is only compatible with Macintosh or Windows computers at this time.
You can copy PhotoParades onto a VHS tape if you have a
Video Out connector on your computer. If you do, you can attach a cable from the Video Out connector to your VCR and record what is playing on the computer to tape. You should consult your computer's manual and/or an assistant at an electronics store for more specific details.

If PhotoParade Player skips right to "the end" (the options screen), then you're playing a PhotoParade that doesn't contain any photos. If you were e-mailed the PhotoParade, let the sender know that there didn't seem to be any photos in the PhotoParade.
In Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition, follow these steps to make sure you don't build an empty PhotoParade:
- Exit the PhotoParade "guided activity" if you're currently using it.
- Open the Easy Photo gallery that you want to make into a PhotoParade.
- Double-click any photo in the gallery. If Easy Photo says that the photo can't be found, then you probably have either deleted the photo, moved the photo, or renamed some or all of the folders that contain the photo. You may also have ejected the floppy or CD that contains the photo. If so, re-insert it.
- Start building a PhotoParade as you did before.
- When you get to the step called "Select a gallery", make sure that you choose the correct gallery. Choose the gallery by clicking on its tab in the Easy Photo window.
- Look again to make sure that the selected gallery has some photos in it.
- Continue until you have rebuilt your PhotoParade. Play it again. Your photos should appear correctly.

When someone sends you a PhotoParade slideshow, you cannot save the individual pictures to your computer. The reason for this is that they are not actually sending you the PhotoParade in a format that reads them as individual pictures, it reads the pictures, music, animation, and text all in one combined file. You will have to contact the person who sent the PhotoParade to you, and they can send the original images to you as email attachments.

This will happen if you have since re-named any of the files or moved them from the folders they were in when you originally created the Gallery. If you keep clicking the NEXT button in your PhotoParade Essentials's Gallery area, it will take you to a screen that says LOCATE FILES. This is where you can have the computer search for the file. For example, if you moved them to a new folder, but their names are the same, the program should be able to find them for you quite easily. If you moved the photos to a new folder AND renamed the photos, it may take longer. One other thing to note, if the images are actually not on your computer anymore (you deleted them) it will not be able to find the images for you If the pictures in your gallery were on a CD or floppy that you had inserted at the time you made the Gallery, you will have to re-insert that CD or floppy in order to conduct the search and have the files "found" and to be able to edit your gallery.

Right-click on your desktop (but not on an icon) and choose "Properties" from the menu. In the Display window that appears, click the Screen Saver tab. Choose
"(NONE)" from the list of screen savers that you see, and click OK.

The most likely cause of this error (and similar errors) is that you have a firewall on your computer that is blocking the PhotoParade Player from connecting to the Internet. To fix this, make the necessary adjustments within your own Internet security programs. You should also make sure you are able to download all files from www.PhotoParade.com while you are adjusting your Internet security settings.
If you are unable to do this for any reason, you may consider temporarily disabling your firewalls when sending out PhotoParade slideshows.

There is a conflict between PhotoParade Player and your video card's "driver" software.
- From your Start menu, choose Settings and then Control Panel.
- Open the item called "Display" in the Control Panel window.
- In Display, click on the "Settings" tab.
- In Settings, click on "Advanced Properties".
- Make a note of the type of hardware you have. It's listed at the top, just under the word "Adapter".
- Click the "Performance" tab.
- Look for the "hardware acceleration" setting. It's usually a "slider" control that you can move to the left or to the right.
- Change the acceleration setting by moving the slider to the left. (You may have to restart your computer for the change to take effect.)
- If the first setting doesn't work, try the others one by one.
If none of the settings work, you should check with your hardware manufacturer to see if they offer an updated version of their software.

You need to make sure that you're choosing a theme that doesn't have "Demo" in its name. After that, you do need to re-create the PhotoParade in the same way as you created it in the first place. In other words, your original "Demo" PhotoParade will always be a "Demo" PhotoParade, so you just need to save a new copy over the old one.

You should start by inserting the CD-ROM again, and letting our software start up. When you're asked to insert the floppy disk, make sure to click the "OK" button and not the "Cancel" button. After you click the "OK" button, see if there is a red "warning" screen or not. If so, your floppy disk may be unreadable. Otherwise, your PhotoParade slideshow will contain your own photos instead of the samples.
To test whether or not your floppy disk is unreadable, first quit out of our CD-ROM software. Then:
- Open the "My Computer" icon on your computer's desktop.
- Make sure your floppy disk is in its drive.
- Double-click the "A:" (floppy) icon in the My Computer window.
- (if you get an error, stop. the disk is damaged)
- Double-click the "images" folder that you see in the "A:" window.
- (if you get an error, stop. the disk is damaged)
- If you can see a number of files within the "images" window, your floppy disk appears to be fine.
If your disk is damaged, you should contact your Portrait Studio as soon as possible. The Portrait Studio can make you a duplicate copy of your floppy disk for you if you contact them quickly enough.

Updating your sound card's "driver" software:
- Go to your Start menu, up to Settings, over to Control Panel, and then double-click the item called System.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click on the plus sign next to "Sound, video, and game controllers".
- In the "outline" area that opens up, look for the most likely candidate for your "sound card."
- Click on it, and click the Properties button, below.
- In the tabs that appear, see if one is called Drivers. If so, click it and click "Update Drivers" if you see that.
- Otherwise, write down as much information as you can about the model and the manufacturer of the board.
- Look on www.DriverZone.com for your sound card, and download and install the latest driver when you find it.

Most PhotoParade themes have background music that uses your computer's
"MIDI" sound capabilities. Check the MIDI volume level (which is set to zero
on many computers) by doing this:
- Double-click the Volume Control icon in your computer's task bar (at the
bottom-right of your screen). It looks like a little yellow megaphone (or on
Windows XP, a silvery one).
- Once the Volume Control window is open, look at the Volume "slider" in
the column that says "Synthesizer" at the top.
- Make sure that the volume isn't set to zero and that "Mute" is off.
If everything looks correct in the Volume Control window, try this:
- Click the Start button and then "Settings" and then "Control Panel" to
open the Control Panel window.
- In the Control Panel window, double-click "Multimedia" (or "Sounds and
Multimedia")
- Click the "MIDI" or "Audio" tab in the top row.
- If you clicked "MIDI", choose the Select "single instrument" radio
button, choose an item from the list that contains the word "Synth", and
click OK.
- If you clicked "Audio", look in the "MIDI Playback" section at the bottom
and choose an item that contains the word "Synth".
- Click OK and close any other windows you just opened.
To test MIDI playback on your computer, connect to the Internet and go to this
address to see if MIDI plays properly
outside of PhotoParade Player.

You most likely have an older version of PhotoParade Player on your computer from either Adobe Photo Deluxe or from a PhotoParade CD that you purchased at a Wal-Mart Portrait Studio. Both of these programs have version 1.0 of the Player, so you need to copy over this version with our latest. You can get the latest FREE PhotoParade Player at http://www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=win for Windows users, and at http://www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac for Macintosh users.

Our current free theme, Space Journey, is available when you answer a very short survey at this location:

PHOTOPARADE PLAYER
What are the system requirements for PhotoParade Player?
The program keeps telling me I need the newest version of PhotoParade Player.
What is Carousel mode?
I just downloaded Player, how do I get back to my PhotoParade that I was sent?
How do I adjust the Internet settings on my PhotoParade Player?
My pictures/graphics are not showing up properly in Player.
My Player skips to the end without showing any photos.
I keep getting the error that I'm not connected to the Internet/ error 20603.
I can't hear the background music in the PhotoParade.
System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Intel Pentium processor or 100% compatible processor, 16 MB of RAM, 800x600 256-color monitor.
System Requirements: Macintosh OS 8.6 or later (runs in Classic mode on OS X), 32 MB of RAM, 800x600 256-color monitor.

You can get the latest FREE PhotoParade Player at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=winfor Windows users, and at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac for Macintosh users.

You can play a PhotoParade in two modes: using the chosen theme (PhotoParade mode) or in a more traditional photo-by-photo display (Carousel mode). By default, the PhotoParade plays in PhotoParade mode. To view a PhotoParade in Carousel mode, press the F1 key while the PhotoParade is playing, click Carousel, click how long you want each photo to show on the screen, and then click Play. To pause Carousel mode, press the Pause key. Press Pause to start it again. If you choose Manual, to see the next photo, press the Spacebar. To go back to an earlier photo, press the Left Arrow key.

What should happen when you are sent an email with a link for a PhotoParade
is, you click on the link and it takes you to the pickup page. You are prompted to download the free Player if you don't already have it installed on your computer, and are provided with a link/button to get the free player. You can also get the free player at
for Windows users and
at for Macintosh users.
Once you have the PhotoParade Player installed, go back to the pickup page (from the link in your email or from the bottom of the web page after your installation was successful) and click the download button. It should start playing the show automatically when the download is complete.
If you're having trouble downloading the file by clicking the download button, you can try this method:
RIGHT-click on the
blue download button and choose *Save Target As* (Macintosh users click and hold down the mouse then choose Save To Disk). After you save it to disk, you need to go to the file and double-click on it to watch the show. You can also watch the show by opening your PhotoParade Player and browsing to the PhotoParade file's location then clicking Open to play it.

- Run PhotoParade Player by double-clicking the PhotoParade Player icon on
your computer's desktop.
- When you're asked to choose a PhotoParade slideshow to play, just click
Cancel.
- You'll now be in the "Help" screen.
- Click the "Internet Settings" button that's near the top-left of the window.
- The Internet Settings window should then appear. You can type the proxy
information in the fields at the bottom. The top checkbox
("firewall-friendly emailing") is new, and you probably don't have to click
it. But if you have any trouble sending PhotoParades in e-mail, you should
return to this window and check it.
You should type either a "dotted address" (that looks something like
56.29.204.196) or a "DNS address" (like proxy.bestbuy.com) into the "Proxy
Address" field. You shouldn't type anything with "http" in it. If an "http"
address is what your network administrator has given you, please ask him or
her for the "IP address" of the proxy server.

If PhotoParade Player skips right to "the end" (the screen that shows the "www.PhotoParade.com" button), then you're playing a PhotoParade that doesn't contain any photos.
Continue until you have rebuilt your PhotoParade. Play it again. Your photos should appear correctly.

The most likely cause of this error is that you have a firewall that you need to let PhotoParade Player know about. To do this, double-click on your PhotoParade Player icon to launch the Player. When it asks you choose a PhotoParade to play, click the Cancel button. This automatically brings you to the Player's Help section. Click the "Internet Settings" button. Then check off the "Firewall-Friendly E-Mailing" checkbox and try sending the slideshow again.
If this does not help, perhaps you just need a PhotoParade Player upgrade. This link provides upgrades for PhotoParade Player, which should solve the problem: http://www.PhotoParade.com/FAQ_20201.asp

To test MIDI playback on your computer, connect to the Internet go to this
address www.PhotoParade.com/test.midi to see if MIDI plays properly
outside of PhotoParade Player.

Yes. Open a PhotoParade with PhotoParade Player, press the F1 key to skip to the Options page, and look for the "Auto Repeat" check box.
The Spell Check feature in PhotoParade Essentials 5.0 automatically checks your titles and captions for misspellings when you click Next Step from the "Create a Slideshow" and "E-Mail to Friends" Gallery screens. If you don't have spelling errors in your titles and captions, you will not see the Check Spelling screen.
If you do have misspellings, the Check Spelling screen will come up and let you fix any misspelling before creating your slideshow. If you don't want to fix the spelling errors PhotoParade finds, simply click the Next Step button to continue creating your slideshow.

When you choose "Create CD" on the PhotoParade Essentials "Your Slideshow Is Ready!" page, the program automatically places a folder on your desktop. This folder is named "PhotoParade CD Files" and it contains the files that you need to copy onto a CD. Be sure that you select "Data CD" when your burning software asks what kind of CD you are making. Finally, be sure that you are not burning the entire PhotoParade CD Files folder, but rather, the 4 items within it.

If your PhotoParade Essentials program is feeding the paper through the printer, but the sheet is coming out blank, please try the following suggestion:
Please try going to your printer manufacturer's website and make sure you
have installed all of the printer's latest drivers.
Then go to your print queue in Windows and make sure *all* print
tasks are cleared. Then please restart your computer and try printing again.

The pictures in a PhotoParade slideshow are compressed to 640x480 pixels or 600x800 pixels, depending on the theme used. This resolution is only for use in the slideshow; your original images are never altered. Therefore, this is going to be the resolution of the prints when printing from a PhotoParade (unless the resolution of the original image is already lower than 640x480 pixels). The compressing is done so that the PhotoParades are small enough files to make downloading and sending them easier, while the images will still look good on your computer screen. PhotoParade Printer only prints wallet-sized images because any image larger than that may not come out as clear.

Play the PhotoParade in Carousel mode, and click the save button (it looks like a floppy disk) when you are viewing the picture you want to save.

SENDING/RECEIVING A PHOTOPARADE
Why can't I receive other people's PhotoParades or mail from PhotoParade?
I get an error when I click the Download button for the PhotoParade.
Whenever I email or download a PhotoParade, my Internet connection times out.
How can I send a PhotoParade to others?
I'm trying to send my PhotoParade but no one is receiving it.
I just downloaded Player, how do I see the PhotoParade that was sent to me?
If you have an e-mail system that is filtering "junk mail" for you, then you may not be able to receive a reply from us. On America Online, go to Keyword: Mail Controls to change your settings to allow mail from "PhotoParade.com".

When you click the Download button, the PhotoParade slideshow you're trying to view isn't getting downloaded properly to your hard disk. This can happen because of a problem with your web browser that we don't fully understand, but we can offer you a helpful work-around:
- Return to the "pickup" page on PhotoParade.com by going back to your original email and clicking the link.
- RIGHT-click on the "click here to download" link that's BELOW the Download button (click and hold the mouse down for Macintosh users).
- From the menu that appears, choose "Save Target As" (or "Save to Disk" for Mac users) to save the slideshow to your hard disk.
- When the slideshow has finished downloading, find it on your hard disk (it's a file whose name ends with ".php") and double-click it to launch the Player and watch the show.

- From your Windows Start menu, choose Settings and then Control Panel
- Double-click "Internet Options"
- Find the setting that says "Disconnect if computer is inactive after [number] minutes"
- UNcheck the setting
- Click OK and close any remaining windows that you just opened.

If you want to e-mail the show, use PhotoParade Player if
you aren't using it already. PhotoParade Player frees you
from worrying about file size limitations when e-mailing. You can get PhotoParade Player at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=win for Windows users, and at
www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac for Macintosh users.
To send a PhotoParade, open it using PhotoParade Player, press the F1
key on the keyboard to go to the Options page, and look for the "Send" button.

Double-click on your PhotoParade Player icon, click cancel on the “choose a PhotoParade” box, and this will take you to the Help section. Click on the Internet Settings button. Make sure that you have the “Firewall-Friendly Emailing” button checked off, especially if you have a firewall!
Please also check to make sure that everyone's email addresses are typed correctly. This is a small but important detail that is often overlooked. You might also try getting to the “To” box by pressing the Tab button from the “From” box, so that it highlights all of the names that your last show was sent to. Once you start typing, it will delete all of the highlighted addresses and replace them with your new addresses.

What should happen when you are sent an email with a link for a PhotoParade
is, you click on the link and it takes you to the pickup page, where you are prompted to download the free Player if you don't already have it installed on your computer. There is a link/button to get the free Player, but you can also get it at www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=win for Windows users, and at
www.PhotoParade.com/playerRegister.asp?os=mac for Macintosh users.
Once you have the PhotoParade Player installed, go back to the pickup page (from the link in your email OR click the link at the bottom of the page that tells you the installation was successful) and click the download button to watch the show.
If you're having trouble downloading the show, try this method: RIGHT-click on the
blue download button and choose *Save Target As* (Macintosh users click and hold down the mouse then choose Save To Disk). After you save it to your hard disk, you need to go to the file and double-click on it to watch the show.
